He has opened an Old Fashioned Soda Fountain in October 1996.  "I am excited about it", says Hostetler.  "Many still remember when it was a special treat to go to a Soda Fountain.  I'd like for grandparents to be able to bring the grandchildren and let them have the same kind of experience they had years ago when they went to their favorite soda fountains."

"We serve old fashioned Cokes made with saved ice and carbonated water", he said.  "We buy Coca Cola syrup gallon jugs and measure the syrup for each drink."  Hostetler is excited about the variety of flavors of Cokes he offers.  "We have cherry, chocolate, chololate-marshmellow, lemon, vanilla, and other", he said.  "We also make phosphates with a variety of flavors.  Lemon phosphates were the thing in the past."

"I have a recipe book printed in New York in the 1930 with all kinds of exotic drinks."  Hostetler also serves milk shakes, malts and sundaes.  "We have a high quality of ice cream", he said.

Hostetler said his soda fountain is designed so it is separate from the pharmacy.  "We have seating for 40 to 50 people."  Hostetler purchased the soda fountain in northern Indiana.  "It came out of a regular soda shop", he said.  "Most fountains in drug stores were six to eight feet wide.  This is more than 12 feet wide."

It had been in storage since 1969 when he had purchased it.   The soda fountain is stainless steel with an oak front.  He hired someone to make him an attractive oak back to match.

In order to add to the old fashioned look, Hostetler purchased antique fixtures dating back to the 1870 to 1890 era at a pharmacy sale in Owensboro, Kentucky.  The fixtures were originally in a pharmacy in Louisville.  The soda fountain is full of old pharmacy antiques.
